About

Hello! My name is Rob Walcott. People who know me well call me Bobby. I am a geriatric millennial and I have big feelings about social media, this site exercises those thoughts. In younger years I have been a bike mechanic, a musician, and a photographer. Professionally I dabbled in web coding at The Image Group during web 2.0. I co-owned Walcott Imaging from 2003 to 2015 and ran a social media photography experiment called Pocket Photographer for a short stint shortly after. I have a small collection of personal photographic work. I am the owner of Centennial Inn and the neighboring house at 18 East 12th which includes 3 apartments and a short term rental.

Change log and Site Changes

  • If I continue to do “Art Seen” (new name?) It would be helpful to:
    • Tag or better document artist name for quick retrieval
    • Add my own personal notes to show.
    • Location would also help (also tag or geo-tagged for easier retrieval)
    • I think I shouldn’t spend too much time on this as it is likely to go by the way side… but a paradox because it is more useful if I am consistent in using it.
  • Am I using the photo “Check-In” idea? Is it part of “Photos” or should it be separate? If part of “Photos” should it also have separate life?
  • Geo-Tagging makes a lot of sense for me to help refresh memory and also better connect to physical world. Currently it is only a plug-in as WordPress no longer offers it as part of the base.
  • For “Collections” it would be helpful to make separate collections. Do I use a tag to auto aggregate or spend time making some sub-collections (and some items can stay loose?)
  • Need to clean up the archive page format. Some categories need their own formatting but the general archive could be improved.
  • Add an “Ideas” category? I probably have a few posts and pages to propagate it.
  • ”Opinions” and “Conversations” categories. Just keep on the back burner for now.
  • Adjust entry text to reflect what I am working on with this site. Make a “Bio” that is either a linked page or bring bio to the bottom footer for now.
  • Still watching how “post type” and “Categories” overlap… no changes at this moment.
  • As I am working on this site, could a to-do list and change log be a page instead of posts like this one? Currently envision the “about” page to take care of this if I go that route. [3/8/25]

My Old Bio/Statement:

Starting his work in photography in 2001, Rob Walcott has been a portrait photographer, commercial photographer, has designed photo booths, created images as art work, managed social media, and has taught photography both privately and at the local high school.

As a professional photographer Walcott is curious about the shifting meaning and ambiguity of the image as the medium of photography continues to rapidly evolve in flexibility, availability, and mutability as a tool of human conversation and expression. More than the photograph, he is interested in the augmentation and limitations of being human, for which photography has made a fine point of entry.
